Jaw Problems and Headaches

Jaw Problems and Headaches in Central London

The way your teeth meet when your jaws bite together is called a ‘dental occlusion’. If you are suffering from Jaw problems and headaches please talk to us about some options.

If your jaws do not bite together properly, you can have a malocclusion, problem with your teeth, in the gums, in the temporaro-mandibular joint (TMJ) or in the muscles that move your jaw. Missing teeth can cause an unbalanced bite, which can cause uneven pressure of your teeth.

TMJ can cause some people to clench the jaw tightly and grind their teeth at night, leading to your teeth wearing down. You may also experience facial pain, headaches, discomfort and clicking when chewing or biting, or ringing or buzzing in your ears. Further problems include migraines, and neck, shoulder, or back pain. You can also develop pain behind your eyes and sinus pain.

Instead of the above symptoms, you may experience changes to your teeth, such as:

  • Flattened, worn teeth
  • Broken teeth, fillings, crowns
  • Loose teeth
  • Sensitive teeth
  • Toothache with no apparent cause

We can address jaw problems at Sonria, to help you find the perfect solution. Examples include, and are not limited to:

  • Wearing a device available to protect teeth and help prevent the TMJ from clenching and grinding.
  • Carefully adjusting your teeth so they meet evenly by changing the direction and position of the slopes (‘tooth equilibration’).
  • Replacement of missing teeth either with a partial denture or a bridge.
  • Depending on the origin or severity of your problem, you may need either orthodontic treatment or maxillofacial surgery.

However, best practices are established on a case-by-case basis so it is important for you to book an appointment as soon as possible.
