World Oral Health Day – 20th March

Last month we launched a series of short videos to demonstrate how to practice good dental hygiene and how to use various dental hygiene tools such as interdental brushes.

These 60 second video’s can be quickly accessed through our instagram and u-tube channels.

The good news is that many of our clients are already starting to see improvements in their oral health through this improved knowledge and practice.

We will continue to create more content like this based on your needs so please keep the suggestions coming in.

Below is a reminder of some key points to remember when it comes to maintaining good oral health:

Regular Brushing: Brush your teeth at least twice a day, for two minutes each time. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Remember NOT to rinse afterwards.

Flossing: Floss at least once a day to remove plaque and debris from between your teeth and under your gum line.

Routine Dental Check-ups: Visit your dentist regularly (typically every 6 months) for professional cleanings and oral exams. If you suffer for gum disease you may need to visit more regularly (eg every 3-4 months)

Healthy Diet: Eat a balanced diet low in sugar and refined carbohydrates to prevent the growth of harmful bacteria in your mouth.

Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water to keep your mouth hydrated and to help wash away food particles.

Limit Fizzy Drinks, Alcohol and Coffee: These beverages can increase your risk of tooth decay, gum disease, and tooth staining.

Stop Bad Habits: Avoid nail-biting, teeth-grinding, and using your teeth as tools, as these can damage your teeth.

Quit Smoking: Smoking increases your risk of gum disease, tooth loss, and oral cancer.

Clean Your Tongue: Brush or scrape your tongue to remove bacteria and freshen your breath.

Using Mouthwash: Many people with good dental hygiene do not use mouthwash so it is not essential. If you do use mouthwash, consider using an alcohol free, fluoride one to help prevent cavities and strengthen tooth enamel. Please note that mouthwash is not a substitute for brushing or flossing. It can be used in-between brushing to freshen the mouth and help control gum disease or decay for those at high risk.
